<p>Today is International Self-Care Day &#8211; 24 July.</p>



<p>A reminder for you to look at taking some time out to reflect on your own wellbeing, look at putting some measures into place or take 10 minutes out at a break time and get some fresh air and walk.</p>



<p>Tomorrow is too late, yesterday is past, the time is now to look at self-care.</p>



<p>If you are not sure, then we created a self-care course. &nbsp;It&#8217;s free, it runs for 7 days and only take a few minutes each day to build new habits! &nbsp;Did you know thousands were trialled with this very thing &#8211; self care over 7 days with a little task each day and they saw meaningful change with just that little start.</p>



<p>Why?</p>



<p>7 days is a good start to develop a routine that are starting to become habits and self care does not mean locking yourself away for 14 days at a retreat (nothing wrong with that if it&#8217;s what you need). &nbsp;But it can start with small incremental steps.</p>

<p>Earlier in the week, I saw this image doing the rounds on social and it struck a note with me and I checked the statistics around New Years Resolutions.</p>

<p>Here’s what the numbers say about New Year’s resolutions in the UK:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Around 21% of people abandon their resolutions within the first month.</li>



<li>Only 9% of individuals successfully keep their New Year’s resolutions long-term.</li>



<li>The average resolution lasts until about mid-May—roughly four and a half months.</li>



<li>Older adults (55+) are less likely to set resolutions, with only 12% participating.</li>



<li>Health and fitness goals dominate, with 42% of people focusing on this area.</li>
</ul>



<p>These stats highlight a common struggle: resolutions often feel like fleeting traditions, driven by a response to holiday indulgence, stress, and pressures. So, how can we move beyond this pattern and create meaningful, lasting change?</p>



<p><strong>Moving Beyond Resolutions: The 5 Core Basics</strong></p>



<p>At our wellness club, we believe in a smarter approach to goal-setting. Instead of relying on fleeting motivation, we encourage you to focus on a framework built on the 5 Core Basics:</p>



<ol class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Mindset</strong>: <u>A positive and growth-focused attitude is the foundation of change.</u> <br><br><em>This is more than just &#8216;I think therefore I am&#8217; (e.g. just thinking about it and it will happen), but examining any limiting beliefs you are carrying and more</em>.<br></li>



<li><strong>Intention</strong>: <u>Understand your “why” &#8211; knowing what drives you is key.</u> <br><br><em>If your goal has a purpose, and is not just a whim or a wish, and you can phrase that clearly, then your intention becomes more realisable as it has a structure and substance.</em><br></li>



<li><strong>Alignment with Values</strong>: <u>Align your goals with what truly matters to you.</u> <br><br><em>Self sabotague, procrastination and distraction (SS, P &amp; D) come in this area. If it isn&#8217;t really in aligment with your beliefs, values, and moral compass; then at a subconscious level the SS, P &amp; D play a role in preventing any momentum.</em><br></li>



<li><strong>Visualization of Outcome</strong>: Picture success clearly to stay inspired.<br><br><em>There is a clear correlation between visualisation and outcomes. This is different from intention. This is being able to seeing your goal and visualise it, then digging in deep and seeing what emotions it stirs up. If you getting X, Y or Z leaves excitement or some positive emotion, then write it down, with what you see how the goal looks (e.g. are you running a shop, painting on a mountain top, speaking to someone in a new language, sitting in your new extension) and how you feel. If it has negative emotions, then use the emotional freedom technique to deal with netagive emotions (negative emotions are natural, fear of the unknown, rejection etc., but dealing with them will enable you to see much more clearly if they are warning signs that you are not in alignment or if they are just emotional stumbling blocks to deal with).</em><br></li>



<li><strong>Ability</strong>: <u>Build confidence by setting achievable, progressive goals.</u> <br><br><em>Goals have to be within your ability, it is very difficult to set a goal that is outside of your natural abilties. Yes, a part of a goal can be learning and new skill or undergoing training; but that has to be something achievable as well. If you goal is outside of your abilities AND ultimately, CAPABILITIES, then don&#8217;t set yourself up for a fall. Reach for the stars, only if you are able, after training, to build a craft to take you to them.</em></li>
</ol>



<p>With these basics in place, you’re ready to take the next steps:</p>



<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li><strong>Accountability: </strong><u>Share your goals with someone who will support you.</u><br><br><em>Now I have heard people talk about the opposite of this, they say sharing your goal is self-saboutage. The rational is you have shared it, so have achieved it. This was an old tactic in the home self development kit days, if someone reading or watching saw a home study kit that solved X, Y or Z, then by buying it, that gave them a sense of relief/achivement, and 90% ended up sitting in cupboards and never used. Therefore, the ultimate issue was never resolved. However, this is a fallacy in goal planning, as it shows that the purchase was just a whim and was never a goal that had the 5 core basics in place.  A goal is being confused with a whim, wish or dream.</em><br></li>



<li><strong>Planning</strong>: <u>Break your goal into small, actionable steps.</u><br><br><em>A goal needs to be broken down into managable steps and there are plenty of goal/step guides out there! There are 3 clear reasons why this is a very good habit.<br><br>1. It enables you to see clearly what is required at what stage, it could be as simple as a phone call, doing research, enrolling on training or going for a 5 minute walk.<br><br>2. It prevents overwhelm. If the steps are not clearly marked out, then not having a clear starting point can cause starting confusion and having mixed or larger goals can bring on overwhelm if time is short each day.<br><br>3. It enabled you to get achivement at the beginning. By being able to complete goals earlier on, drives positivity towards the goal by achiving what has already been set out and, in some cases, it can accellerate other stages and steps.</em><br></li>



<li><strong>Vision</strong>: <u>Keep your desired outcome front and center.</u> <br><br><em>This is different from visualiation, visualistion is about seeing you in the outcome, driving positive emotion and feeling excited about it.  Vision is keeping the overall outcome as an objective, from which you can plan your steps.  This may come from the visualisation as well as the early objective. However, it is meant to be more objective and for planning, it also has another objective, it can be adjusted if circunstances change in your life that drives such a need.</em><br></li>



<li><strong>Adjusting Your Routine</strong>: <u>Create habits that support your journey daily.</u><br><br><em>It is often a case that a daily or weekly routine will need to change to achive a goal. Time will need putting aside from learning, planning and training. You may need to be spending time with different people who are also on journey for encouragement. Your may need to review your steps daily, eat at different times, spend less time on entertainment and more in research.  All of this means your daily routine will be impacted and you need to have level of excitment about this supporting your goal, and not resenting change.</em></li>
</ul>



<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>A Journey, Not a Sprint</strong></p>



<p>New Year’s resolutions often feel like short-term fixes, but real, lasting change is a journey. It’s about setting goals that resonate with your values, creating a plan, and enjoying the process.<br><br>In this club we have a members area that is about effective goal planning and providing the support for mindset, tools, tecniques and coaching insights.  Have a look around and don&#8217;t let a &#8216;resolution&#8217; turn into a failure because your foundations were not laid.<br><br>This is not to say that others who do this without consciously thinking about the foundations, won&#8217;t succeed &#8211; lots do.  However, they seem to have these applied naturally and without thinking about them; but if you look carefully, they will have all of the core elements in place.</p>

<p style="font-size:17px">Aviva, the large insurance company, implemented a comprehensive mental health program to support its employees. </p>



<p style="font-size:17px">This initiative included mental health training, awareness campaigns, and access to counselling services. </p>



<p style="font-size:17px">Aviva saw a significant increase in employee engagement, with 94% of staff members reporting that they felt Aviva was committed to employee well-being. Additionally, there was a reduction in absenteeism due to mental health issues, resulting in cost savings for the company.</p>



<p>Lessons to learn</p>



<p>Investment in welfare, wellness and mindfulness benefits the users &#8211; employees, staff, team members and owners. Personal growth, improved mental health effects the ability to perform at work with more engagement, understanding, problem solving ability and more willingness to cooperate. Stress, anxiety, and burnout have become all too common as we strive to excel in our personal and professional lives. </p>



<p>However, there is a cure for wellness that encompasses a holistic approach, focusing on key aspects such as diet, nutrition, fitness, health, life planning, and mindfulness. In this article, we explore how each of these components plays a vital role in achieving a balanced and fulfilling life.  You can start to plan and integrate Wellness into your life and see it benefit your health, relationships, work life and more.</p>



<p>At the Wellness Within Club, we define wellness as anything that is preventing your from being, feeling, thinking or functioning to the utmost of your ability.</p>



<p class="has-medium-font-size"><strong>1</strong>. <strong>Diet and Nutrition: Fueling Your Body for Optimal Health</strong></p>



<p>The foundation of a cure for wellness lies in our diet and nutrition. A well-balanced and nutrient-rich diet provides our bodies with the necessary fuel to function optimally. Emphasize fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats in your meals. Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day. Limit processed foods, sugary drinks, and excessive caffeine intake, as they can negatively impact your energy levels and overall well-being. Some advisors even go so far as say eliminate them from your life as they have no clear health benefits that out-weight their negative impact!</p>



<p><strong>Facts and Stats</strong><br><br>According to the World Health Organization (WHO), inadequate intake of fruits and vegetables is a significant global health concern. They estimate that worldwide, only 1 in 5 adults consumes the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables, which is approximately 400 grams per day. This means that 4 out of 5 adults are not meeting the minimum daily intake of fruits and vegetables, potentially missing out on essential nutrients and health benefits that these foods offer.</p>



<p>This statistic highlights the importance of prioritizing a well-balanced diet that includes an adequate amount of fruits and vegetables. By incorporating more plant-based foods into our meals, we can significantly improve our nutritional intake and support our overall health and well-being.</p>

Find an exercise routine that you enjoy, whether it&#8217;s jogging, dancing, yoga, or swimming. Consistency is key, so aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity exercise per week, as recommended by health experts.<br><br>There are different approaches to starting, depending upon your starting point (recovering from injury, having a lifestyle of almost zero exercise, recovering from pregnancy).  Also <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-66303982" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">new research</a> shows different activates have different outcomes (e.g. recent research is showing that planning is effective for lowering blood pressure).  So depending upon your outcome and goal, the specific type may depend on what you choose.</p>

<p>According to the World Health Organization (WHO), physical inactivity is a leading risk factor for global mortality. They estimate that approximately 1 in 4 adults worldwide does not meet the minimum recommended levels of physical activity. Insufficient physical activity can contribute to various health issues, including obesity, cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and certain types of cancer.</p>



<p>The WHO recommends that adults aged 18-64 should engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity or at least 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity aerobic physical activity per week. Additionally, they suggest incorporating muscle-strengthening activities on two or more days a week.</p>



<p>This statistic highlights the importance of embracing an active lifestyle and engaging in regular physical activity for our overall health and well-being. By making a conscious effort to stay physically active, we can reduce the risk of chronic diseases, boost our mood, and improve our quality of life.</p>

<p>To achieve a cure for wellness, it&#8217;s vital to prioritize your health.  At our club, we do not engage in offering medical advice, but we always advise those who need support to get professional medical advice.<br><br> Aside from fitness, diet and nutrition; you may want to try other activities.  For instance, this is from the <a href="https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-41430301" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">BBC website</a> based on some interesting research:</p>



<p><strong>Carrying the shopping, gardening, or vacuuming, can help older people to lead healthier lives for longer, according to leading physiotherapists.</strong></p>



<p>They warn that millions of older people risk falls because they are failing to maintain their strength.</p>



<p>Nearly a quarter of over-65s don&#8217;t do any strength exercises, the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) says.</p>



<p>And it warns that the rise of internet shopping means fewer people carry home their groceries.</p>



<p>Physiotherapists say not enough people realise the need to maintain strength as we age.</p>



<p>NHS guidelines suggest people do two strengthening sessions a week, such as exercising with weights, or lifting and carrying heavy loads such as groceries.</p>



<p>But a survey of more than 2,000 older people in the UK, carried out on behalf of the CSP, found nearly a quarter do no strengthening exercises at all.</p>

<p>Since the inception early 2022, the Wellness Spa has been developing it&#8217;s content, rooms, training, courses and facilities.   We have teamed up with a range of professional life coaches in various areas; fitness, diet, mindfulness, beauty and more.   These coaches are inside the club with additional support, training and expertise!  We will be adding and developing our coaching community to make it fresh, relevant and exciting.</p>



<p>You will be able to join and pick a level of membership to suite you.  Alongside your membership, there is a community you can join in with.  There will be workshops, live events, spotlight sessions and guest speakers.   We already have a couple of &#8216;world experts&#8217; having given permission for their teaching to be inside. </p>



<p>You can feel refreshed, challenged, fine tuned and balanced by following one of our journey planners inside.  If you are feeling &#8216;stuck&#8217;, get our mindset training to reset yourself!<br><br>As well as being a Wellness Spa for individuals, we will have corporate packages for those with more than a &#8216;family&#8217; access package. </p>



<p>Our long term goal is to create a community of members who are able to get on with their life to the fullest, with training, support and encouragement. <h2 class="kt-adv-heading_b6fc61-eb wp-block-kadence-advancedheading" data-kb-block="kb-adv-heading_b6fc61-eb">Monday the 16th of January 2023 is known as Blue Monday Day</h2>



<p>Blue Monday is known as the most &#8216;depressing day of the year&#8217; and occurs mid January every year.  It is based on an equation that takes numerous factors into account and the equation calculates that the 3rd Monday in January is &#8216;Blue Monday&#8217;.</p>



<p>The 3 main factors it uses are: firstly; the weather, secondly; debt level and thirdly; motivation levels.&nbsp; The time of year is dark, wet, cold and gloomy.&nbsp; Reality of bills and debt levels sink in, as some people spend beyond their means prior to Christmas.&nbsp; New Years resolutions gradually fall away and motivation becomes low; you want to change but, you don’t.&nbsp; </p>



<p>There are some other similar and smaller factors, and together this ‘Bermuda Triangle’ of depression is what we occurs and reaches its peak on one day in the year.  It occurs on the 4th Monday after Christmas.<br><br>This calculation was announced by Sky Travel as a press release in 2005 and it was based on some research done by a tutor by the name of Cliff Arnall.&nbsp;&nbsp; It has largely been ‘debunked’ by scientists and was picked up on and used as marketing tool to drive ‘holiday bookings’.&nbsp;&nbsp;Since 2005, scientists have examined the formula, claims and conclusions &#8211; almost everyone has said it does not have any substance as mathematical formula.  Blue Monday is seen, by many, as a myth.</p>



<p><strong>Therefore, what is the reality?</strong><br><br>The reality is that <em>there is a trifold of circumstances </em>that play a part in our wellbeing and mental outlook that all occur around this time of year.<br><br>Firstly, there is the affect of SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder), it is thought to affect more than 2 million people in the UK alone.&nbsp; It is a seasonal depression that usually occurs during winter.&nbsp; People feel lower, depressed, lethargic, unsociable more so than at other times of the year.<br><br>Secondly, research found that the average person gets into debt to the sum of £439 over Christmas and this takes the average person 4 months to get their finances back in shape.  The repayments start in January the reality of owing starts to hit.<br><br>Thirdly, figures show that anywhere from up to 80% of all New Year’s resolutions have failed by February.&nbsp; That means a lot of people who wanted to change, wished for something different to happen. They’ve seen the good intentions gradually drift away from their grasp and control.</p>



<p>In addition, many suffer a lower immunity with colds, feeling run down and lacking energy (not necessary SAD related).  You may have had this yourself and shared the news with another and had the response &#8220;there&#8217;s a lot of it going around&#8221; (a standard reply)!</p>



<p>Whilst there is no evidence for a specific day being ‘the most depressing day of the year’ there are statistical factors that point to this time of year having a negative impact on a sizeable number of people.&nbsp; Therefore, is this Monday the 16<sup>th</sup> the most depressing day of the year &#8211; one we call Blue Monday?&nbsp; No.&nbsp; Is this time of year a challenge for many people, yes.<br><br>Nigel Singer from the Wellness Within Spa Club said:</p>



<p>“There seems to be correlation between those who are affected by seasonal depression and lethargy, those who tend to spend more they can afford and those who set goals and fail. There are common factors involved and depression, spending levels and target failures can all be interlinked.&nbsp;</p>



<p>Whilst we don’t believe in Blue Monday, we do believe in supporting those affected by this seasonal low and have created a support pack to help those struggling to get back in control.</p>



<p>A simple remedy is to get a small regular walk in on a frequent basis.  If you can access green space, even better.  This allows you to get some fresh air, some perspective and it gradually increases your energy levels.
